The flag of the United States of America is the most recognizable symbol of the USA and is steeped in history. Having gone through several design changes through the years, its current design is unmistakable in representing “the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” The US flag is a predominant emblem displayed on several national holidays, such as Memorial Day, the 4th of July (aka Independence Day), and Veteran’s Day. But it is also flown on a daily basis in front of government buildings, public schools, sporting venues, businesses, and individual homes. When citizens of the USA sing or listen to the National Anthem they face the flag. Children in schools across the country also face the flag while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. While in school, children also learn about each part of the flag and what each represents – the number of stars, stripes, colors, etc.
